The construction and expansion of railroads westward had a major impact on the growth of the United States. Although settlement began in 1874, it was not until the spring of 1879 that two
railroads announced plans to build through Pipestone County. The railroad interest caused a land boom in the county and led to the founding and growth of many towns.
View a hand-pulled cargo cart, railroad lanterns, and learn about the impact railroad expansion had on numerous Pipestone Count towns. Exhibit is on the Museum’s ground level.
