The nation is in the midst of honoring the 100th Anniversary of World War One. To show Pipestone County’s involvement in this war, the Pipestone County Historical Society has an exhibit and education programming to pay tribute to the men and women who served from Pipestone County as well as to tell the stories of events on the home front during this time.
The first step was to gather the names of WW1 veterans enlisting from Pipestone County. Pipestone County Historical Society was awarded an Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund Grant through the Minnesota Historical Society. This award helped fund a project called Identifying World War One Veterans of Pipestone County. Local historian David Rambow was the primary researcher for this project. He compiled veterans’ biographical and service information.

Further information can be seen on the Facebook page dedicated to Pipestone County in WW1. A digital copy of the original Pipestone in WW1 book is available by clicking here and a physical copy can be purchased from the Museum Gift Shop.
This project has been financed in part with funds provided by the State of Minnesota from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund through the Minnesota Historical Society.
